Suggested Tours - Kalamaki Zakynthos

Kalamaki is a lovely place to enjoy walks on the long sandy beach, on the main road with the shops, restaurants and bars or in the quiet streets of the village.

Here are two suggested routes you can follow in order to enjoy many of the main attractions on the island in one day.

1.
Start your day by heading towards the renowned tourist resort of Laganas and rent a small motor boat to visit the amazingly beautiful Marathonisi Island where the endangered Caretta Caretta turtles choose to lay their eggs. Head off to the peaceful Agios Sostis village, hidden among vast olive groves and enjoy a drink or a snack in one of the cafes overlooking the clear blue sea. Continue your journey through the traditional village of Lithakia and after that you will reach the village of Koiliomenos which attracts many tourists because of the church of Agios Nikolaos with the unique stone-carved belfry dating from 1893.

Moving along you get to the mountain village of Agios Leontas. Here, the more daring can take a dive at Porto Roxa or Porto Limnionas. These are both rocky points with deep clear blue waters. The view is amazing and there is also a taverna with delicious Greek dishes on the top of Porto Limniona, ideal for admiring the magical colours of the sunset.

Keep going until you reach the scenic village of Exo Hora. Here you have the chance to see houses that have survived the earthquake of 1953. In the centre of the village there is an olive tree that is said to be over 2000 years old! After Exo Hora, you will arrive at the village of Maries, another traditional mountain village with local produce available on the side of the road and surely not to be missed. Make a last stop at the beautiful Porto Vromi beach. This small cove with pebbles in shades of brown and crystal clear water is ideal for a swim. You can also take one of the small boats and visit the famous Shipwreck, just an hour away along with a few private beaches.

2.
Start your day off with a little shopping in the main commercial pedestrian street in Zakynthos town and have a coffee in one of the pretty cafeterias in the two main squares or the port road that offers a calming sea view. Continue by visiting the resorts of Tsilivi and Alykes, both renowned for their lovely beach, shops, bars, traditional tavernas and restaurants. Enjoy a swim or a delicious meal by the sea.

Following the road towards the north of the island, make a stop at the villages of Agios Nikolaos and Korithi. Near Korithi is the attractive stone Skinari Lighthouse, built in 1897 to a height of 9.5 m. The amazing Blue Caves are also near so do not miss the opportunity to take a boat to visit both the caves and the world famous Shipwreck Cove. These are the two major highlights of Zakynthos that all visitors must witness in order to grasp their unbelievable beauty.
